The Museum of Joy was, and possibly still is, a series of experimental efforts to celebrate the wildly multiplitous range, depth and breadth of joyous experience through an ephemeral "collection" of performances, reflections, moments of connection, weird art, and poetic gatherings.

The Museum’s live events are not currently active, but joy itself never truly leaves us. Though it is always brief, vivid, and searing, never ours for very long, it colors our lives with meaning every time it touches us. It is one of the few universal gifts, not earned, not deserved, but there, like rain & sunlight, one of the mysterious glories of being alive in this puzzling, painful, beautiful world.

We would like to thank the many hundreds of people who have participated in the Museum’s events & happenings over the last few years - the artists, singers, accidental & intentional poets, labyrinth-walkers, lantern-bearers, treasure-seekers, collaboraters, financial supporters, library-goers, and other marvelous strangers who have felt the winds of joy blow through us together.

Wherever and whenever and whoever you are, joy is part of your inheritance. The Museum of Joy is within you; you are, by existing, part of the luminous collection it houses under its infinite and nonexistent roof.

"While the tale of how we suffer, and how we are delighted, and how we may triumph is never new, it always must be heard. There isn't any other tale to tell, it's the only light we've got in all this darkness."

- James Baldwin
